Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the treatment outcomes of two different approaches for correcting the occlusal plane in patients with orthodontic pathology and pathological tooth wear.
  • To evaluate the role of orthodontic micro-implants and indirect restorations in achieving treatment success.

Main Methods:

  • A study involving 65 patients with orthodontic pathology, impaired incisal guidance, and pathological tooth wear.
  • Group I: treatment with bracket systems and micro-implants to correct occlusal plane position.
  • Group II: treatment with bracket systems only. Occlusal plane position, incisal guidance, and C. Christensen phenomenon were assessed. Indirect tooth restorations were utilized in both groups.

  • Group II showed some improvement but did not reach normal ranges, with limited restoration of incisal guidance and C. Christensen phenomenon, and significantly higher restoration defect rates (up to 13.7% chipping).

Conclusions:

  • Treatment involving occlusal plane correction with micro-implants and indirect restorations is effective for orthodontic pathology and pathological tooth wear.
  • Normalization of the occlusal plane and restoration of the C. Christensen phenomenon are key to successful treatment outcomes.
  • Orthodontic micro-implants and indirect restorations offer advantages in managing these complex dental conditions.
