The title hydrated salt, C8H11N3 2+·2Cl-·H2O, is a monoclinic polymorph of the previously reported triclinic form. The compound crystallizes in space group P21/c with Z' = 1. The crystal structure features N-H⋯O, N-H⋯Cl and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and aromatic π-π stacking inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network.
