Abstract:
Reprogramming of permanent pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators before and after magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations can be disruptive to clinical workflows. Recent technological advancements have permitted more flexible approaches and include device-embedded MRI sensors that automatically activate and deactivate MRI mode, automated tablet-based reprogramming that does not require physician oversight, and remote interrogation and reprogramming solutions. This review summarizes recent manufacturer-specific innovations and suggests a workflow adapted to these emerging technologies.
