ASSOCIATION BETWEEN GALECTIN-3 AND MICROVASCULAR COMPLICATIONS IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY.

Serum galectin-3 levels are higher in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with microvascular complications. However, galectin-3 is not an independent predictor of these complications after adjusting for BMI and glycemic control.

- Elevated serum galectin-3 in T2DM patients with microvascular complications does not independently predict these complications.
- Galectin-3 may indicate underlying metabolic and inflammatory burden rather than being an independent predictor.
- Glycemic control (HbA1c) remains a key independent predictor of microvascular complications in T2DM.
