Summary
Chronic patellar tendon ruptures can be successfully reconstructed using semitendinosus autografts. This surgical technique restores knee extensor function and provides excellent recovery with proper rehabilitation.
Area of Science:
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Sports Medicine
- Biomedical Engineering
Background:
- Chronic patellar tendon ruptures (>3 weeks) are challenging due to patellar migration and scarring.
- Primary repair is often inadequate for chronic ruptures, necessitating reconstructive options.
