The first instance of coordination complexes applied to the photoelectrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction was documented using three isoreticular compounds that were synthesized from trinuclear metal-oxo clusters combined with a photosensitive carbazole ligand. Significantly, Cba-Fe2Ni demonstrated superior catalytic activity, achieving nearly 100% faradaic efficiency for NH3 production compared to previously reported systems.
