Exhaled CO2 monitoring offers critical insights into respiratory, cardiac, and metabolic functions. However, its broader adoption is hindered by the lack of compact, fast-responding, and humidity-resistant sensing systems capable of accurately tracking rapid breathing cycles in real time. Here, we present a fully integrated wireless facemask for continuous exhaled CO2 monitoring that overcomes these challenges. We developed a nanocomposite colorimetric sensing material, mCP/ZIF-8-NH2@fCOF, which possesses an ultrafast response time of 60 ms and a hydrophobic shell that mitigates humidity interference. By coupling its optical response with a convolutional neural network, the facemask can identify various breathing patterns with 94% accuracy and diagnose chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with 93% accuracy. Furthermore, the facemask has proven effective for exercise monitoring and sleep apnea detection. This nonintrusive, highly compact, and versatile device provides a practical pathway toward ubiquitous respiratory monitoring and personalized health management.

The Role of Diffusion in Respiration
Diffusion is the process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. In the respiratory system, this principle...
Oxygen Delivering System II: Venturi Mask and Transtracheal Oxygen
Venturi Mask
The Venturi mask, named after the Venturi effect, is designed to deliver precise oxygen concentrations. It consists of a large tube with an oxygen inlet that narrows down, causing a pressure drop that pulls air in through adjustable side ports. The mask is a lightweight,...
Oxygen Delivering System I: Nasal Cannula and Face Mask
Nasal Cannula
A nasal cannula is a lightweight tube split at one end into two prongs and placed in the nostrils. It is typically used to deliver low to medium levels of oxygen.
Suggested flow rate: The suggested flow rate for a nasal cannula typically ranges between 1 and 6 L/min.

Administering Oxygen by Mask
Administering oxygen by mask is a common nursing intervention that provides supplemental oxygen to patients with respiratory distress or chronic lung conditions. This procedure involves delivering oxygen at a specified rate through a face mask connected to an oxygen source.
