Abstract:
Melanoma is responsible for most skin cancer-related mortalities, and clinical urgency drives the development of novel diagnostic tools. Precision diagnostics relying on fluorescence output provide many advantages, including easy and noninvasive readout and a high signal-to-noise ratio that is enabled through a change in the intensity or the wavelength of fluorescence in response to disease-associated parameters. This chapter explores the chemical design strategies for fluorescent probes, focusing on the exploitation of melanogenic enzymes, protein biomarkers, and the targeting of the dysregulated tumor microenvironment to achieve unprecedented diagnostic precision.
