Abstract:
Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) produces a mass spectral image of a sample, where each pixel in the image contains a mass spectrum from which chemical information can be extracted to provide maps of different molecules of interest. Alternatively, a chemical fingerprint of regions of interest in the image/sample can be extracted. The mass spectral image can be correlated with histological images to better understand the spatial chemistry associated with the different cell types/regions of the sample.
