Abstract:
As the opening article in this Sleep Medicine Clinics issue on artificial intelligence (AI) in sleep medicine, this primer addresses the limited exposure most sleep clinicians have to the principles behind these tools. Adopting AI outputs without understanding how models are trained, validated, and tested may compromise clinical decision-making. This review covers fundamental AI concepts, methodological limitations, and clinical integration. It also addresses how AI sleep medicine research should be appraised through regulatory principles and structured critical appraisal frameworks.
