    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Parasitology

    Background:

    • Ocular toxoplasmosis is a significant cause of posterior uveitis.
    • Macular involvement can lead to vision impairment.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence and severity of macular involvement in ocular toxoplasmosis attacks.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 60 ocular toxoplasmosis cases.
    • Clinical inspection for macular edema and retinitis.

    Main Results:

    • No macular problems were observed in 62% of cases.
    • Active retinitis near the macula occurred in 12%.
    • Mild macular edema was present in 12%, while severe edema was uncommon.

    Conclusions:

    • Macular involvement is not a universal finding in ocular toxoplasmosis.
    • Severe macular edema is infrequent, suggesting a generally favorable prognosis for the macula in many cases.
