Colposcopy of the normal transformation zone

To recognize the typical transformation zone, the colposcopist must first be familiar with the normal appearance of other parts of the cervix. These can be summarized as follows: original squamous epithelium, original columnar epithelium, squamo-columnar junction, metaplasia, and the congenital transformation zone.
