Preceptor selection and evaluation: a tool for educators and managers

The preceptor concept has been cited extensively in the literature, although few measurable tools for preceptor identification, selection, and evaluation have been documented. This article describes a tool designed to assist in the selection of unit preceptors. The tool also provides an evaluation method for preceptors and identifies areas for future preceptor development when used on an annual basis.
