Abstract:
This article reviews the Health Care Quality Improvement Act, Title IV of Public Law 99-660, which was passed by the US Congress in 1986. The Act offered immunity to professional review societies of hospital and other health care entities, and persons serving on or otherwise assisting such bodies. It is believed that professional review actions will further the quality of medical care and provide due process safeguards for the health care provider.
