[The frequency of secondary cataract after extracapsular cataract extraction]

A complication of extracapsular cataract extraction is posterior capsule opacification (secondary cataract). In this study we found that 26.0% of patients operated for cataract with extracapsular technique were treated for secondary cataract. The average postoperative time to treatment with Nd-YAG-lasercapsulotomy was 15.2 months with a follow-up time of 34 months.
