Cystoid macular edema associated with ocular hypotensive lipids

Summary
Newer lipid-based eye drops like unoprostone, travaprost, and bimatoprost may cause cystoid macular edema. Discontinuation and treatment resolved vision loss in patients with glaucoma.

- CME resolved and visual acuity returned to baseline after discontinuing the lipid-lowering eye drops and initiating topical steroids and NSAIDs.

- Caution is advised when prescribing these ocular hypotensive lipids in high-risk patients, such as those with prior ocular surgeries.
- Further research is needed to establish a definitive causal link between these medications and CME.
