Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the social media engagement patterns of registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs).
  • To investigate the correlation between nurses' social media utilization, their demographic characteristics, and their job-related decision-making processes.

Main Methods:

  • A national survey was administered to RNs and APRNs, collecting data on demographics, personal and professional social media platform usage, and engagement activities.
  • Statistical analyses, including descriptive statistics, Cramér's V test, and binomial logistic regression, were employed to analyze the collected data.

Main Results:

  • A total of 812 nurses participated in the survey.
  • Significant variations in social media platform and activity preferences were observed across different age groups, job titles, and employment sectors.
  • While most nurses reported job satisfaction, a substantial portion (approximately one-third) indicated intentions to leave their current positions within a year.

Conclusions:

  • Nurse leaders can strategically utilize social media to enhance recruitment and retention efforts.
  • A data-driven approach to social media engagement is recommended for building and maintaining a diverse nursing workforce.
