Complex maxillofacial trauma is a challenging problem for even the most experienced reconstructive surgeon. However, advances in presurgical planning, utilization of intraoperative technology, occlusal splints, three dimensional (3D) printing, and creation of custom plates can aid in simplifying challenging cases, decreasing operative time, and optimizing patient outcomes. However, there are limitations to the use of these innovations that surgeons must be aware of. This article will discuss technological advances in maxillofacial trauma.
