For patients with hypothyroidism refractory to oral levothyroxine (LT4), injectable LT4 offers a viable alternative. This case report details successful treatment of persistent hypothyroidism using daily intramuscular (IM) LT4, normalizing thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and resolving symptoms.
Area of Science:
- Endocrinology
- Pharmacology
- Internal Medicine
Background:
- Levothyroxine (LT4) monotherapy is standard for hypothyroidism.
- Alternative treatments are considered when standard therapy is ineffective.
- Gastric bypass surgery can impact thyroid hormone absorption.
