Efficacy of bonding of methyl methacrylate-based luting systems to poly(ether ether ketone)

Abstract:
This study evaluated the efficacy of bonding of methyl methacrylate -based luting systems to poly(ether ether ketone). Three methyl methacrylate-based systems (Super-Bond [SB], Multibond [MB], and Beautilink [BL]) and an auto-polymerizing poly(methyl methacrylate) resin (Unifast II [UN]) were tested. Tensile bond strength (TBS) was measured before and after thermocycling. Under the initial condition, SB showed significantly higher TBS than BL and UN, whereas no significant difference was observed between SB and MB. After thermocycling, SB exhibited significantly higher TBS than the other groups. Failure mode analysis revealed that SB had fewer adhesive failures than the other groups under both conditions.
