Summary
Nurse educators can now access end-of-life (EOL) content through the TNEEL software. An experiential workshop effectively trained 94 educators to use this innovative teaching tool, improving their confidence and readiness for EOL education.
Area of Science:
- Nursing Education
- Medical Informatics
- End-of-Life Care
Background:
- Undergraduate nursing education lacks sufficient end-of-life (EOL) content.
- This deficit hinders nurses' preparedness for EOL care discussions and patient support.
- The Teaching, Nursing, End-of-Life, and Learning (TNEEL) software was developed to address this educational gap.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the effectiveness of an experiential workshop designed to train nurse educators in using the TNEEL software.
- To assess the impact of the workshop on educators' familiarity and comfort with the TNEEL toolkit.
- To determine the feasibility of a nationwide training plan utilizing experiential workshops for TNEEL adoption.
Main Methods:
- An experiential workshop was conducted for 94 nurse educators.
- Participants received training and hands-on coaching on using the TNEEL software and its educational tools on laptop computers.
- Pre- and post-workshop evaluations assessed participants' opinions and beliefs regarding the use of the computer-based tool.
Main Results:
- Findings indicate that the workshop was effective in facilitating the adoption of the TNEEL educational resource.
- Participants showed increased familiarity and comfort with the TNEEL software after the experiential training.
- The study supports the potential for a nationwide training initiative based on this workshop model.
Conclusions:
- Experiential workshops are an effective method for training nurse educators to use the TNEEL software.
- The TNEEL software represents a valuable resource for enhancing end-of-life education in nursing.
- The study provides a foundation for a national strategy to implement TNEEL training.
