Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess bone mineralization in men with coronary heart disease (CHD) complicated by Stage II-A chronic heart failure.
  • To identify the prevalence and stages of bone loss in this patient cohort.

Main Methods:

  • Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) was used to measure bone mineral density (BMD) in the lumbar spine.
  • The study included 33 male patients diagnosed with CHD and Stage II-A chronic heart failure.

Main Results:

  • 49.2% of patients exhibited structural and functional bone tissue changes in the lumbar spine.
  • Prevalence included Stage I osteopenia (44.6%), Stage II osteopenia (27.7%), Stage III osteopenia (10.8%), and osteoporosis (16.9%).
  • A decreasing trend in BMD was observed in L1 across osteopenia stages, with uniform decrease in osteoporosis.

Conclusions:

  • Coronary heart disease complicated by Stage II-A chronic heart failure is associated with significant bone demineralization.
  • Osteopenia and osteoporosis are prevalent in this patient group, highlighting a critical comorbidity.
  • Further research is warranted to explore therapeutic strategies for bone health in cardiovascular patients.
