Nursing Evaluation

The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Background:

Learner self-assessment and accountability are crucial in nursing education.
Competency sessions are vital for delivering quality patient care.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the impact of incorporating video review into competency evaluations for nursing learners.
To determine if video aids in objective self-evaluation or leads to inflated scores.

Main Methods:

An experimental design was employed to compare self-evaluation scores.
One group underwent competency evaluations with video review, while the control group did not.
Statistical analysis was used to compare mean self-evaluation scores between groups.

Main Results:

A statistically significant difference was observed in self-evaluation scores between the two groups.
Learners without video recall demonstrated higher mean total self-evaluation scores.
This suggests that video review may lead to more accurate, less inflated self-assessments.

Conclusions:

The study supports the hypothesis that omitting video recall can lead to inflated self-evaluation scores in nursing learners.
Integrating video into competency evaluations may promote more accurate self-assessment and accountability.
Findings highlight the potential of video technology to enhance the objectivity of learner evaluations in healthcare education.
