Aim:
The aim of this scoping review was to identify the types of literature available on holistic nursing education, the student populations included, and examples of educational practices.
Background:
Taking a holistic approach to nursing education is innovative and student-centered; however, the literature provides insufficient knowledge about how and where holistic nursing education has been delivered.
Method:
A scoping review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. Sources were included if they were about holistic nursing education in the academic setting and published in English between 2000 and 2024.
Results:
Of the 20 sources identified, most were scholarly articles. Traditional undergraduate baccalaureate students were the most common population represented in the literature. The literature provided several examples of how holistic education was conducted.
Conclusion:
Continued research is necessary to advance nursing knowledge of holistic education with nursing students and to explore holistic education within different educational environments and cultures.
