Abstract:
Fatigue is a frequent and disabling symptom in patients undergoing hemodialysis, affecting up to 90 % of individuals and significantly impairing quality of life. It results both from the physiological stress induced by the dialysis session itself and from individual, metabolic, and psychosocial determinants. Dialysis recovery time (DRT), defined as the time required to recover after a dialysis session, is a simple, patient-centered indicator to assess acute post-dialysis fatigue. This article summarizes current evidence on fatigue and DRT in hemodialysis and discusses available therapeutic strategies, with a particular focus on non-pharmacological approaches, notably intradialytic exercise and psycho-educational interventions.
